Restoration of underground parking facility in Schwabing completed

The office building on Domagkstraße in the Munich district of Schwabing, where Rädlinger Ingenieurbau recently restored the second basement level for underground parking, is just 10 years old. Planning errors with the drainage and a possible mistake in the choice of concrete and inadequate treatment thereafter had led to early damage, such as cracks in the floor plate over a length of approximately 350 linear metres and a width of up to 10 mm.

And so it was that Rädlinger Ingenieurbau undertook comprehensive restoration measures on the 3000 m² area from mid-August to mid-November. First of all, the existing OS8 coating on the floor plate, base supports, wall bases and the channel at the transition from the floor plate to the wall were truncated. Before beginning any further measures, Rädlinger staff built a temporary support with trunks of 40 cm diameter and jacks at eight pillars. Then, using high-pressure water jets, the chloride-contaminated concrete could be removed in the evaporation channel, in the pump wells and in the cracks in the floor plate.

After the preparatory activities, the reinforcement was partially completed in the floor plate and the high-pressure-water-jet-reduction area reprofiled with appropriate concrete. In addition, the Rädlinger team installed 250 linear metres of PC slope wedges and 500 linear metres of PC triangle wedges for specific water drainage.

Finally, the floor plate, base supports and wall bases were coated (OS8 coating in two layers) and the bases and walls repainted. The private client expressed its great satisfaction with Josef Rädlinger Ingenieurbau GmbH's work upon acceptance of the remedial measures, and complained of no defects.

The greater Munich area has huge market potential for Rädlinger's civil engineering division, and also for the whole group. This year alone, Rädlinger opened more than 20 sites, including several large projects in the metropolitan area. In particular, with regard to the restoration and repair of structures such as underground car parks and buildings, Rädlinger – with its own office in Munich itself – enjoys a high profile and a very good reputation.
