Conduit system constructed at underground depot near the Allianz Arena

Together with the suburban railway, the Munich underground forms the backbone of public transport in the Bavarian capital city. The Munich Transport Company (MVG), the operators of the Munich underground, transports approximately 390 million passengers every year.

SWM planned the construction of a conduit line system in the area of the northern underground depot in Hans-Jensen-Weg, near to the Allianz Arena. The order to complete the works was received by the network construction division of Josef Rädlinger Ingenieurbau GmbH in May 2015.

The supply line with a total length of 1,100 metres was laid using the open-trench method. The line had to be laid with minimal coverage over a distance of 550 metres, which is why it was protected with reinforced concrete at crossings against damage caused by heavy-duty traffic.

A total of around 9 kilometres of cable conduits with a diameter of 110mm were laid over the stretch. Existing shafts were adjusted to the requirements of the new system, but new cable ducts were also established.

Following on from the civil engineering works, medium-voltage, DC voltage and signal cables as well as fibre optic cables were able to be fed into the new conduit system under very restricted space conditions.

The network construction team also carried out extensive surface works on the asphalt and pavement surfaces as well as on the edging in the course of the construction measure.

The ongoing traffic of the MVG and the simultaneous works of other companies in the area presented an organisational challenge. However, a smooth and safe operation was ensured. The conduit system was completed on time and handed over to the client in September for commissioning and use.
