Christmas tree adorns St Peter's Square

The Rädlinger low-loader trailer with the Christmas tree arrived in Rome earlier than expected. With the best wishes of Waldmünchen residents and the blessing of Bishop Rudolf Voderholzer, the heavy load reached its destination unscathed and without delays. The Vatican gardeners made good use of the head start, already erecting the tree on 5 December, one day earlier than planned. To enable the trunk to fit into the concrete ring in which it was anchored, the 25 metre-high spruce had to be trimmed a little.

For the employees of the Rädlinger company group who drove the heavy load to Rome without a hitch, this meant that the bulk of the work was done, enabling them to embark upon their journey home. On St Peter's Square, however, decorating the giant Christmas tree was on the weekend agenda. Not until its ceremonial illumination on 13 December, however, will it shine in its full splendour.
